A new favorite

I am having a hard time pulling myself away from perusing artists' blogs in the evenings. Last night I came across Emily Grandin's work - it's so lovely and simple. Her line work is so detailed and full of humour. My boys will soon be having to share a room, so we're making plans to redecorate. Q has high hopes for an ocean theme - I'm getting the impression he is wanting some ferocious sharks on his wall, but I found this image on Emily's blog last night and fell in love with it. I showed Q and X the image this morning, and although it's not as scary as Q would like, he does think the image is 'very cool' along with some of Emily's line drawing of a lighthouse, and iceberg and a jellyfish. By the end of the renno plan we may have an Emily Grandin gallery exhibit!

There it is!

Last week I found the best tutorial on straightening a scanned image...I have been looking for it ever since and discovered it again tonight on Gina Perry's blog. I am just adding the link here for safe keeping.

So, I had a thought - perhaps the image I uploaded earlier had to be in RGB rather than CMYK, let's see if that works...much better! I'll have to remember that!

Yesterday, whilst overcoming a very bad cold and sitting with the boys who I occupied with "An American Tail", I made my first attempt at colorizing a sketch with Photoshop. For my illustration class this week we were working on character development. My character is a 5 year old boy, shy, kind and helpful who likes dinosaurs. Here's a sketch of him and my attempt at coloring his head in Photoshop. Interestingly, the color did not transfer when I uploaded it. He's not supposed to be blue.

I should note that for coloring the head I used a great three part tutorial that I found on-line that was posted by Tom Richmond.
